Hobbes

Hobbes is the original "Fraidy Cat." Perhaps it has something to do with his background.

I found him at the junkyard where I found so many others. (See the page for Dusty). When he was still young, I saw him run and hide under a big roll-off full of smashed aluminum cans. I called him, kitty-kitty'ed him, and meowed to him, and he meowed back. He came all the way to the nearest corner of the roll-off, but stayed just out of reach. So I got out the secret weapon: a can of Dinty Moore stew. I poured some on an aluminum pie pan (wonder where that came from?) and set it at my feet. As soon as got a whiff of the stew, he came right out and let me pick him up. I took him to the break room and he filled himself right up. Must have been very hungry indeed. I would not have believed a cat his size could have held that much, had I not seen it myself.

Back then, he was pretty much a white cat with faint orange points, but as he grew he acquired an overall orange tint and the points became a darker orange-tan. He is a very beautiful cat, with blue eyes and stripes on his tail. He likes us a lot, but tends to run and hide at the drop of a hat. Literally: I tossed my hat on the couch once, and he ran away and hid.

Most of the time, though he is outgoing around us, and likes laps. Since he is part Siamese, he talks a lot, which is nice. When he is getting petted, his tail curls back up so far it almost touches his head.

Hank gave him his name, after the tiger in Bill Watterson's "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strip. He figured since we already had a "Calvin" (Kalvyn), we ought to have a Hobbes.
